Yayoi Terminal 21 - Bangkok Food Review:

1. Arrival by Skytrain

I stepped off the BTS at Asok and drifted along with the early evening crowd, feeling the warm Bangkok air mingle with the twinkling lights of December. From that very first moment, the evening had a calm, inviting rhythm.

2. The Christmas Tree

As I approached the entrance, a towering Christmas tree came into view, nearly touching the height of the skywalk. With soft golden lights glowing, couples posed beneath it while families balanced cameras and laughter, creating a festive scene that set a cheerful tone.

3. Entering Terminal 21

Once inside, the mall opened like a theatrical stage of global design. Each floor represented a different city, giving the feeling of travelling from one destination to another, carried along by the steady hum of escalators and soft ambient music.

4. The Magnetic Neon Pull

Without any particular craving guiding me, I wandered through the Tokyo-themed level. Suddenly, the bright neon Yayoi sign seemed to shine with a kind of inviting certainty, and almost instinctively I knew I had found my spot.

5. Being Greeted

Upon entering the restaurant, I was met with friendly smiles and clear English spoken comfortably by the staff. Their warm, confident manner created an immediate ease, making the experience feel relaxed rather than rushed or transactional.

6. Taking My Seat

After being guided to my table, I noticed the neat precision of the setting: aligned chopsticks, polished glass and a freshly cleaned surface. Each detail signalled quiet care, suggesting a well-managed dining environment.

7. Choosing the Set Meal

When I opened the menu, I was pleased to see a simple, balanced layout. The set-meal format stood out as the most sensible and enjoyable option, allowing me to appreciate multiple dishes without feeling overwhelmed.

8. Soup – The Opening Act

Soon after ordering, the soups arrived. The miso offered light, savoury calmness, while the butajiru brought deeper, homely layers of flavour with pork and mushrooms. Together, they prepared the palate for what was to follow.

9. The Pork Steak – The Star

Next came the pork steak, tender and juicy, balanced beautifully by a wasabi-style sauce. The pairing felt thoughtful, lifting the dish rather than overshadowing it.

10. The Deep-Fried Fish

Following the main, the fish arrived with a crisp, golden coating. The tartar sauce added a pleasing brightness, creating a well-proportioned bite that felt both fresh and satisfying.

11. The Extras

As an additional choice, I ordered salmon sushi topped with salmon eggs. Each bite delivered a pop of ocean flavour, and with hot green tea and water beside me, the entire meal felt harmoniously complete.

12. The Price and the Walk Back

Finally, when the bill arrived, the total came to around £12 – a figure that felt genuinely impressive for the quality and location. As I walked back toward the BTS station, passing once more under the warm glow of the Christmas tree, I carried a quiet sense of satisfaction and a clear thought: I would gladly return.
